The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of North and Central Georgia, warning of severe thunderstorms and the potential for isolated tornadoes late tonight and into Saturday.
Damaging wind gusts are expected to be the primary hazard associated with this weather event.
A line of thunderstorms is forecast to develop ahead of an approaching cold front, reaching far northwest Georgia before sunrise on Saturday.
Some of these thunderstorms could be strong to severe, and isolated brief tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather updates and prepare for potential power outages.
As the cold front moves through North and Central Georgia on Saturday, the risk for strong to severe thunderstorms will persist, particularly south of the I-20 corridor. Damaging wind gusts will continue to be the primary concern.
In addition to the severe weather, the National Weather Service warns that patchy to areas of frost are possible late Saturday night across portions of northeast Georgia. Residents should take necessary precautions to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing.
