‘Soldiers of Christ’ Members Arrested Following Woman’s Death

The Gist: Detectives in Gwinnett County have arrested five adults and one juvenile, all related to a religious group calling themselves “Soldiers of Christ,” for their alleged involvement in a woman’s death. The case is now under investigation as a homicide.

What Happened?: Officers first discovered the body inside a car’s trunk parked at 3555 Gwinnett Place Drive on September 12. Initial reports surfaced after a family member of one of the suspects found the body and called 911. Charges against the suspects include felony murder, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, and concealing the death of another.

• Six arrested: Eric Hyun, 26; Gawom Lee, 26; Joonho Lee, 26; Juoonhyum Lee, 22; Hyunji Lee, 25; and Junyeoug Lee, 15.
• The victim weighed about 70 pounds at the time of discovery.
• The victim moved to the U.S. in the summer for religious reasons.

More Details: Detectives are leaning toward malnourishment as the possible cause of death, suggesting abusive conditions. According to police, the victim died in the basement of one of the suspects’ homes.

What’s Next?: The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, along with the District Attorney’s Office, are assisting in the investigation. All suspects are believed to be in custody. Meanwhile, the victim’s family in South Korea hasn’t been informed yet.
