The school at 2750 Forest Pkwy., Ellenwood, was recently approved for a district charter by the Clayton County Board of Education. The School Board unanimously approved the district charter request during a Nov 27 work session.
The district charter petition is for a five-year term beginning in the 2024-25 school year.
Utopian seeks to implement a district charter middle school for 375 students in grades six through eight.
The Utopian Academy for the Arts is the 2023 Georgia Charter School of the Year.

The school offers gender-based classroom environments for all core curricula classes, and classes in the dramatic, media, and creative arts as a supplement to core classes for all students.
