JONESBORO — More than 40 schools competed in the Clayton County Public Schools Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl recently held at Kendrick Middle School.
Teams from elementary, middle, and high schools across the district competed in the Jan. 27 event.
Here are the top three schools in each division (with the top two advancing to the Metro Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl competition):
First place: Jewel C. Anderson Elementary School.
Second place: Thurgood Marshall Elementary School.
Third place: Arnold Elementary School.
First place: Elite Scholars Academy.
Second place: Forest Park Middle School.
Third place: G.P. Babb Middle School.
First place: Elite Scholars Academy.
Second place: Morrow High School.
Third place: Mundy’s Mill High School.
Following the same format at the annual Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, teams from schools across the district competed using quizzing buzzers to answer questions about the books that earned nominations for the Georgia Book Award and Peach Book Award.
As the six rounds of competition concluded, each student received a free book to add to their home library before gathering in the gymnasium to participate in a dance party before announcing winning teams and closing remarks.
