JONESBORO — A suspect who had been arrested in connection to a 2022 murder at a Clayton County gas station was recently sentenced to life.
In a statement released Thursday, the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office said that on Jan. 26, Senior Judge Arch McGarity sentenced Yusuf Minor, 29, of Stone Mountain, to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus a consecutive 25 years in prison.
A Clayton County jury found Minor guilty of malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
According to evidence from the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office, on Feb. 24, 2022, Minor and the victims — Ja’Leesa May-Carter (deceased) and Alaria Davis-Colter — were at the Texaco gas station. Minor and the victims were unknown to one another.
While checking out at the Texaco, Minor left his cell phone on the counter with a $100 bill in the case.
The victims checked out and took the money from the phone case prior to leaving the gas station.
Minor later confronted the store clerk to review the video surveillance and followed the victims to the apartment complex where he fired multiple rounds at the victims as they ran away.
May-Carter was discovered by Davis-Colteron the back patio of an apartment later that afternoon. May-Carter was determined to be deceased at the scene.
According to Clayton County Jail records, Minor is also in jail on riot in penal institution, conspiracy to commit a crime, and interference with government property charges.
