JONESBORO — Clayton County Public Schools has announced that Martha Ellen Stilwell School of the Arts senior Lindsey Blackwell has been named a semifinalist in the 2024 Coca-Cola Scholars Program.
Blackwell is one of 1,514 high school seniors across the country selected from more than 103,800 submitted applications. Her selection was based on her academic excellence, leadership, and service demonstrated in school and community activities.
With the addition of the 2024 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 6,900 Coke Scholars nationwide with more than $84 million in scholarships over the course of 36 years.
“This is truly amazing news,” said Anthony W. Smith, CCPS superintendent/CEO of schools. “Speaking for our Board of Education, our 50,000-plus students, and our more than 7,000 employees, I offer Miss Blackwell congratulations and extend best wishes as she continues in the selection process.”
Blackwell, who is in the running for one of 150 college scholarships worth $20,000, now moves to the next round of the selection process to become a Coca-Cola Scholar.
She will be asked to complete Phase 2 applications, which include essays, a recommendation, and a transcript. An independent selection committee will review the applications and recommend 250 Regional Finalists in early January to take part in online interviews.
This finalist portion of the process will result in 150 Coke Scholars being named in late February to each receive a $20,000 college scholarship.
Recipients will be guests of honor at Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend in Atlanta in April.
