JONESBORO — A special election will be held May 21 to fill the unexpired Clayton County Board of Commissioner District 1 term of Alieka Anderson, who resigned to run for commission chair.
A runoff, if needed, will be held on June 18.
Qualifying for the special election is scheduled from Wednesday, March 27 to Friday March 29. The March 27 and 28 qualifying hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. while Friday’s qualifying hours are from 9 a.m. to noon.
Qualifying will be held at the Clayton County Board of Registration and Elections office, 121 S. McDonough St., Annex II, Main Floor, Jonesboro.
The qualifying fee has been set at $1,068, which is 3% of the position’s annual salary. During a special called meeting on March 12, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved to set the qualifying fee.
Monday, April 22 is the last day to register to vote for all persons who are not registered to vote and who want to vote in the special election.
