On a Monday night in October 2019, a 26-year-old woman dialed 911 from a Days Inn off Barrett Parkway.
A.L. had spent more than two years under the thumb of Earnest Bernard Reed, who went by the alias “Sway Huncho.” The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office would later refer to him as a “self-proclaimed pimp.”
Reed used and abused A.L. She was sold for sex. She was forced to service customers “back to back to back.” She was beaten. She went days without being allowed to shower. When she didn’t earn enough money, she wasn’t allowed to eat. For most of her two years in captivity, she was forbidden from wearing clothes that weren’t lingerie.
“The physical, mental and emotional stages of it is the worst,” she said. “It’s like you’re living in hell.”
To this day, Reed’s alias is tattooed across her chest. It reads “Huncho Business,” his way of marking her as his property. On her leg is a scar. Reed branded her with a prong, she said, like one “you put marshmallows and stuff on.”
