JONESBORO — A preliminary hearing is scheduled Jan. 24 in Clayton County Magistrate Court for a man arrested in connection to holding an Atlanta TV news crew hostage on Dec. 11.
According to Clayton County Court records, Brandon R. Logan, 41, has a preliminary hearing scheduled Jan. 24 at 8:30 via Zoom. His first appearance hearing was held Dec. 12.
Logan, who is listed as being homeless according to Clayton County Jail records, is charged with terroristic threats and acts, false imprisonment, public drunk, obstructing/hindering emergency phone call, simple battery, simple assault, and loitering or prowling.
According to the Clayton County Police Department, on Dec. 11 at 11:17 p.m., Clayton County E-911 Communications received a call from Atlanta First News CBS employee Gary Stilwell.
Stilwell said he received an alarming text message at 10:45 p.m. from his news crew at 9151 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, in front of the Clayton County Courthouse.
The text message stated that “they were being threatened and were not safe.”
Upon receiving this information, Clayton County E-911 dispatched the Jonesboro Police Department at 11:30 p.m. and an officer arrived at 11:38 p.m.
According to the CCPD, Stilwell was advised of what transpired and was not satisfied with what had been communicated to him. To ensure the safety of his news crew, Stilwell sent an additional news crew to check on his fellow workers.
A short time after the news crew arrived in the area, they saw a Clayton County Police vehicle and flashed their lights to gain the attention of the officer. At that time, an officer pulled into the area to render aid.
