LOVEJOY —A special dedication ceremony is scheduled Monday, Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at the Lovejoy Mayor’s Park to rename the park in honor of long-time Mayor Bobby Cartwright.
The park is at 111596 Hastings Bridge Road, Lovejoy.
“For over 20 years, Mayor Bobby has been dedicated to the betterment of our city,” a statement from the city of Lovejoy read. “He has paved the way to encourage growth, prosperity, and livelihood for all those who have had the opportunity to know and love the city he holds so dear.”
Cartwright was appointed to the Lovejoy City Council in 2002 and was elected to the council in 2003.
In 2004, he was appointed as mayor pro team and has served as mayor since March of 2012 but will be stepping down at the end of the year.
The next Lovejoy mayor will be council member Marci Fluellyn. At the end of the qualifying in August, Fluellyn was the only mayor candidate.
