JONESBORO — Several North Clayton High School students were recently honored for their efforts in the TRIO Summer Program at Morehouse College.
The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The programs identify students who show potential for success and provide encouragement, support, and assistance.
As part of their participation in the program, students lived on campus and attended daily classes.
North Clayton had 15 students participate in the program and several were recognized for their accomplishments.
North Clayton students that were recognized at a recent awards banquet:
— Zion Hall and Mona Lisa Chukka won first place in the symposium. They won a $100 gift certificate and an iPad.
— Jennifer Togbor was named the program’s first valedictorian. She was awarded with a MacBook and a plaque.
— Several NCHS students earned the highest grade point average in a core class.
— Several NCHS students received citizenship awards.
— NCHS students earned awards for the Olympiad Sports Competition.
— Several NCHS students received up to six different award recognitions.
North Clayton students received the most awards in all areas during the banquet.
“As we prepare our scholars to be productive, contributing members of society, we are proud of these students for embracing the challenge of navigating the college environment successfully throughout the program,” said Clayton County School Superintendent Anthony W. Smith said. “It is inspiring to know that we are preparing the next generation of leaders who will shape the future with their knowledge, skills, and commitment to making a positive impact locally and globally.”
