Rocky Bleier is one of the greatest comeback stories in the history of the National Football League.
After graduating from Notre Dame, Bleier went on to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1968 but after that season, was drafted into the U.S. Army.
Bleier went on to serve in Vietnam in 1969 and was wounded in combat. After being told he would not play football again, Bleier was determined to come back.
He rejoined the Steelers in 1970 and was a part of four Super Bowl winning teams before retiring in 1980.
He later wrote a book about his experiences — “Fighting Back” — and it was made into a TV movie starring Robert Urich.
Now, Bleier is a motivational speaker sharing a story of encouragement, hope, and impact.
On Veterans Day, Bleier is scheduled to appear at an event at the Morrow Center, 1180 Southlake Circle, Suite 100, with the free program beginning at 11 a.m.
“All of our lives are built on hope,” he said in a video on www.rockybleier.com. “As you well know, my life was built on hope as well but hope has to start somewhere — one kernel of belief that you can do something and make a difference or become what you want to become.”
