The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has renewed its focus on Service, Experience, and Expansion or SEE. Starting next month, MARTA will begin deconstruction and replacement of the north pedestrian bridge at East Lake rail station. Once the work is complete, customers will SEE improved Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility with a new elevator and a cleaner, safer bridge with new flooring, lighting, and paint.
The north pedestrian bridge and north parking lot at East Lake Station will close beginning Wednesday, March 13. All customers must use the south pedestrian bridge and south parking lot to reach train and bus service at East Lake Station. The East Lake StationSoccer pitch in the north lot will remain open with limited parking.
There will be occasional road closures on West Howard Avenue and detours when the old bridge is removed, and the new bridge installed. Road closures will be announced well in advance.
Beginning March 13, MARTA will operate a Mobility shuttle that will pick up from the front platform of the north side of the station and drop off at the entrance of the south side of the station. MARTA Mobility provides ADA accessible service to anyone unable to ride or disembark from our regular MARTA transit services. Please allow an additional 15 to 20 minutes for Mobility services.
Similar work is planned for the south bridge after the north bridge reopens in October. For information on rail station improvements visit MARTA (itsmarta.com).
