JONESBORO — The Jonesboro Police Department is reimbursing drivers who were wrongfully ticketed after errors in school zone automated cameras.
According to a Nov. 10 statement by Jonesboro Police Chief Tommy Henderson, the department is working to identify and resolve speeding citations that were issued in error from August of 2022 to May of 2023 during specific times.
Henderson said only a select number of drivers were affected by the issue.
Henderson said that the police department found errors on some speeding citations issued at the following locations on the following dates:
— Lake Jodeco Road (Suder Elementary School) from 8:01 a.m. to 1:44 p.m. and from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
— Fayetteville Road (Perry Learning Center/Lee Street Elementary School from 8:01 a.m. to 10:29 a.m.
— Stockbridge Road (Arnold Elementary School and Jonesboro Middle School) from 9:01 a.m. to 1:49 p.m.
Henderson said that not all citations are eligible for a refund.
“Our team has carefully assessed each each and the refund process will be automatic for eligible citations,” Henderson wrote. “If your citation is deemed eligible for a refund, you can expect the reimbursement to be processed without any further action on your part.”
Henderson said the department is taking steps to prevent similar errors in the future.
“I wish to offer my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused by recent issues where certain citations were issued inappropriately,” Henderson wrote.
If your citation was issued from August 2022 to September of 2023, call the Jonesboro Police Department at 470-726-1610. If your ticket was issued outside of that time frame, contact Red Speed-USA as indicated on your citation.
