JONESBORO — Dr. Donya Sartor has been elected the city of Jonesboro’s new mayor.
She will fulfill the remainder of former Mayor Joy Day’s term through December 2023.
Sartor won with 263 votes while opponent Pat Sebo-Hand earned 180 votes.
Day announced her resignation in August 2022 after having served as in the position two different times for a total of 23 years.
City residents were also tasked with filling two city council seats vacated by Sartor and Sebo-Hand. By law they had to give up their council positions to run for mayor.
Don Dixon and Alfred Dixon were the top two vote getters and will serve on the council throughout Sartor’s and Sebo-Hand’s remaining terms.
