JONESBORO — An administrative investigation ordered by the Jonesboro City Council alleges that Mayor Donya Sartor committed multiple wrongdoings — including possible criminal activity and violations of the city charter.
The report, which was ordered by the council on Sept. 11, was submitted Oct. 11 by attorney Tracy Lawson, who was appointed by the council to conduct the investigation.
The report was discussed during the council’s Oct. 9 meeting but no actual details were released at that time other than the investigation confirmed there are potential criminal allegations and law enforcement has been notified, said City Attorney Winston Denmark. Denmark also said that according to the city’s charter, if an investigation finds criminal activity, the investigation must stop and law enforcement be notified.
At the Oct. 9 meeting, Sartor — who is also under a GBI investigation for allegedly pulling a gun on a Jonesboro Police officer — described the administrative investigation as a “political witch hunt.”
“There’s been a series of incidents and irregularities that have been disruptive to how we function as a City Council,” she said. “I want to address these issues and declare in this forum how we are going to function in accordance to our city charter moving forward.”
Sartor also said she is entitled to hearing before the council can take action.
“There has been absolute chaos in the Jonesboro City Center since Sept. 26 as it relates to our City Council business,” Sartor said.
She also said the City Council has not been following the city charter.
