CLAYTON COUNTY — A Clayton County Sheriff’s Office inmate who escaped Tuesday while being treated at Southern Regional Medical Center was taken into custody later that evening.
The CCSO said Brandi Marie Cannon, 34, of 1082 Reynolds Court, Morrow, was being treated at the hospital after telling officers she swallowed drugs prior to being taken to the Clayton County Jail.
Cannon was able to slip her cuffs and pull the fire alarm to escape, the CCSO said.
Clayton County Communications later received a call about a suspicious person at Old Dixie and Old Dixie Way.
Clayton County Chief Deputy Jonathan Green spotted Cannon at 6120 Old Dixie Way, Forest Park, and she took off running.
The CCSO said Cannon broke into a house and car before being taken into custody by Green on the 400 block of Thomas Road, is about 1.1 miles away from the hospital.
According to Clayton County Jail records, Cannon faces the following charges — theft by receiving stolen property, burglary, marijuana possession-less than 1 ounce, possession of tools during the commission of a crime, giving a false name/address/date of birth, Violation of Georgia Controlled Substances Act-possession of Schedule 1 controlled substance, identity fraud, obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers, and theft by receiving stolen property.
According to Clayton County Court records, she was scheduled for a first appearance hearing in Magistrate Court Wednesday, Feb. 7.
The CCSO is reviewing the incident and Internal Affairs is investigating the conduct of the deputies and corrections officers.
