JONESBORO — Community Center Church members and the United Women of Faith from Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church recently launched phase II of “Ending the Pipeline of School to Prison” with a supply drive for basic hygiene items.
In total, they collected 172 pairs of undergarments, 171 toothbrushes, 81 individual deodorants, 31 ChapSticks, and 76 bars of soap for local school children.
“We were so proud to join our sisters at St. Andrews Chapel UMC and to support for this awesome ministry project,” Community Center Church Senior Pastor Michael P. Howington said. “Children today live in a cruel world, and simple hygiene can mean the difference in good choices, or bad ones. Providing these supplies is our small way to help end the school to prison pipeline and give these young princes and princesses a little hope and a huge self-esteem boost. I hope in the future, more churches will join us, because this shows just how much we can get accomplished when we work together, as one global church.”
They partnered with Crane Hardware and Millar Law Firm to collect the items.
Planning is underway for providing more supplies to help through the rest of the school year.
