JONESBORO — During the Clayton County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, Oct. 17, Vice Chair Felicia Franklin said she won’t resign her seat after a Sept. 29 incident where she claimed she was drugged at a Morrow sports bar.
“I am going to resign as the District 3 commissioner, but I want you to hear me clearly — I am going to resign as the District 3 commissioner the day I am elected the chairwoman of the Clayton County Board of Commissioners,” she said.
According to reports, a Lake City Police officer found Franklin lying on a bench and crying and later appeared to have passed out outside the 404 Sports Bar and Grill.
Franklin was combative as EMS personnel were trying to evaluate her and transport her to Southern Regional Medical Center, it was reported.
On Oct. 3, Franklin posted about the incident on her Facebook page and wrote: “I want to share a deeply personal and troubling experience that I recently faced while attending an event here in our very community. It is believed by medical professionals that I was drugged with a GHB pill, more commonly known as the ‘date rape pill,’ and this incident has shaken me to my core.”
According to an Oct. 13 Morrow Police Department report, urine test results from Southern Regional revealed Franklin had cannabis in her system.
“I understand the city of Morrow Police Department stated they have completed their investigation,” Franklin said at the Oct. 17 meeting. “They also stated they could not find anything to prove someone put something in a drink that I did have but they also 100% couldn’t say that they can assure me that no one did anything to that drink that I took.”
Franklin also stressed that she was moving forward with her campaign for Clayton County chair.
