Winners of the Family Heritage Recipe Contest at Stilwell School of the Arts were recently honored.
They were chosen after submitting a recipe passed down through their family and writing an essay detailing its history.
The competition was organized by the CCPS Nutrition Services Department.
The winners of the top prizes were Eileen Resendiz, who won first place for her family’s Tamales Rojos, and Ayornido Ferpohurida, who won second place for her family’s Ofada Stew.
Winning honorable mention were Cymone Tolbert for her mother’s broccoli and rice casserole; Krissa Gresham for her father’s red-colored cake; Patrick Pool for his grandmother May’s red beans and rice; and Mia Chrispin for her family’s fried fish meal.
Each winner’s recipe will be included on the school lunch menu so that all of their classmates can sample it and learn about the winners’ cultural heritage.
