JONESBORO — On the Nov. 7 special election ballot, Clayton County voters will be deciding on freeport tax exemptions.
On Oct. 16, 1979, Clayton County approved Level 1 Freeport, which has four categories. Therefore, the Nov. 7 election has four questions on the ballot about freeport tax exemptions.
The four questions on the ballot include the following categories:
♦ Raw materials/goods in process.
♦ Finished goods manufactured in Georgia held by the manufacturer.
♦ Finished goods of a distributor destined for out-of-state shipment.
♦ Finished goods stored in fulfillment center.
Currently, the county offers a 100% tax exemption for these items.
On the Nov. 7 ballot, voters are asked if the eligible freeport items exemption status should be 80% — which would mean the items would be 20% taxable.
For those voters who don’t want to wait until Election Day there is still time to vote early as advance voting continues through Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
Early voting sites include:
♦ Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center, 3499 Rex Road, Rex.
♦ Clayton County Elections and Registration, 121 S. McDonough St., Jonesboro.
♦College Page Fire Station, 5131 W. Fayetteville Road, College Park.
♦ Forest Park Senior Center, 5087 Park Ave., Forest Park.
♦ Lake Spivey Recreation Center, 2300 Walt Stephens Road, Jonesboro.
♦ Morrow Municipal Complex, 1500 Morrow Road, Morrow.
♦ South Clayton Recreation Center, 1837 McDonough Road, Hampton.
♦ Virginia B. Gray Recreation Center, 1475 E. Fayetteville Road, Riverdale.
Several municipal elections will also be held Nov. 7, including College Park (which is partially in Clayton County), Jonesboro, Morrow, and Riverdale.
Forest Park and Lovejoy were slated to hold elections but those were cancelled as all candidates are running unopposed.
