JONESBORO — The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a cardiac arrest that resulted in a Clayton County Jail inmate death Tuesday, March 26.
In an announcement March 26, the CCSO said the inmate, Dewayne Driscoll, had a cardiac arrest after a seizure earlier in the day.
The CCSO said CPR was given and he was transported to Southern Regional Medical Center by Clayton County EMS after what the Sheriff’s Office described as “extensive life-saving efforts.”
Driscoll died, and the Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and his family was notified.
The CCSO said Driscoll had been arrested Dec. 29, 2020 on charges of DUI-less safe, suspended license and improper lane change.
On Feb. 14, 2022, the Sheriff’s Office said Driscoll was sentenced to 20 days in the Clayton County Jail and 11 months and 10 days of probation.
On July 25, 2023, a probation violation arrest warrant was signed for Driscoll, the CCSO said.
Driscoll was taken into custody on March 17, 2024 by the Forest Park Police Department on charges of brake lights, fleeing from police, obstruction of an officer, suspended license and violation of probation.
The Sheriff’s Office said Driscoll went to court on his probation violation and was sentenced to serve four months and 23 days in the Clayton County Jail with a release date of Aug. 1, 2024.
“Our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Dewayne Driscoll,” the CCSO said in a Nixle alert.
