JONESBORO — Jonesboro is set to be the second city in Georgia to get a Tim Horton’s coffeehouse.
The new 1,600-square-foot shop is set to be built at the corner of Tara Boulevard and Edgemoor Avenue where the Level 2 Sports Bar was once located. The first Tim Hortons will be built in Columbus.
Tim Hortons was founded in Canada in 1964 and according to the new franchisee owner the coffee brand ranks No. 3 in the world.
According to Steven Rowland with Rowland Engineering, the shop will offer a double drive thru with and entrance and exit off both Tara Boulevard and Edgemoor Avenue. As per the county’s overlay district ordinance, a 40-foot buffer will line the back of the property that abuts residential housing. Additionally, the menu board and speakers will face away from the homes.
Commissioner DeMont Davis requested a sidewalk be included in the building plans.
“We’ve had multiple pedestrian deaths on that causeway and that’s what I’m looking to avoid,” he said.
Transportation and Development Director Jeff Metarko explained that six-foot sidewalk along the building’s frontage is required by county code.
The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the franchisee’s request for the Conditional Use Permit required to build a drive through.
