JONESBORO — Interim Sheriff Levon Allen, the favored candidate of former sheriff Victor Hill, has won the special election with 7,707 or 47.01% of the votes. He will serve out the Hill’s remaining term through December 2024.
Challengers Clarence Cox received 4,690 votes, followed by Chris Storey with 2,592 votes, Dwayne Fabian 862 votes and Terry Evans 542 votes.
As for the the decision whether to continue the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, county voters overwhelmingly approved the referendum with 12,841 votes or 79.22% of ballots cast.
Finally, Eric W. Bell II was elected to State House District 75. Bell earned 61.65% or 2,222 votes. He will fulfill the remaining term of Rep. Mike Glanton who resigned earlier this year for health reasons.
Challengers Herman Drew Andrews earned 973 votes while Della Ashley picked up 409 votes.
According to the Secretary of State’s Office just 16,410 or 8.87% of the 184,932 residents register to vote cast a ballot in the March 21 special election.
