JONESBORO — According to statistics released Oct. 10 by the Georgia Department of Education, Clayton County Public Schools posted an 81.1% graduation rate for 2023 — a 1.5% improvement from 2022.
The school system said it’s the district’s highest graduation percentage since the state instituted the four-year cohort formula for determining graduation rates in 2011.
Other information released by the Georgia DOE:
— The four-year cohort graduation rate has increase nearly 30 percentage points since 2011.
— For the first time in its history, Charles R. Drew High reported a graduation rate of more than 80% (81.7%).
— Elite Scholars Academy has continued to report a 100% graduation rate since 2014, the first graduating class at the school.
— With a third straight 100% graduation rate, M.E. Stillwell School for the Arts has graduated an average off 99.81% since its first graduation in 2015.
— Two schools maintained graduation rates of more than 90% — Lovejoy (92.3%) and Mt. Zion (90.7%). Mundy’s Mill (89.3%) and Jonesboro (89.8) finished less than a percentage point from 90%.
— Perry Career Academy posted a 52.6% graduation rate — the largest gain in the school system with an increase of 5.8%.
— Eight of 12 high schools increased their graduation rates for 2023.
“This is a noteworthy achievement,” School Superintendent Anthony Smith said “Reaching a grad rate of 81.1% is the district’s highest graduation percentage since the state of Georgia redesigned how it calculates graduation rates in 2011. The class of 2023 has certainly made us proud and we with these students continues success as they pursue their pose-secondary endeavors.”
