JONESBORO — Clayton County Public Schools is working to improve its lowest-performing schools.
During an Oct. 30 work session, the Clayton County Board of Education received an update on its Federally-Identified Schools.
Clayton County currently has 22 Federally-Identified Schools in three categories within Title I — Comprehensive Support and Improvement Schools, Targeted Supported and Improved Schools, and Promise Schools.
Comprehensive Support and Improvement schools are the lowest-performing schools that represented the bottom 5% of all schools eligible for identification and for secondary schools, a low graduation rate.
CSI schools include Lee Street Elementary, Jonesboro Middle, Northcutt Elementary, West Clayton Elementary, and Perry Center Career Academy.
Targeted Supported and Improved schools have at least one subgroup (such as students with disabilities) that’s performing in the lowest 5% of all schools in at least 50% of indicators in the College and Career Ready Performance Index.
James A. Jackson and Kilpatrick elementary schools are listed as TSI schools.
Promise schools are identified as the lowest-performing schools that represent the bottom 5.01% to 10% of all schools eligible for identification.
Local Promise schools include Callaway Elementary, Church Street Elementary, Edmonds Elementary, Fountain Elementary, Harper Elementary, Huie Elementary, Mt. Zion Elementary, Mt. Zion Primary, Pointe South Elementary, Suder Elementary, Tara Elementary, Adamson Elementary, Forest Park Middle, Pointe South Middle, and North Clayton High.
During the work session, Church Street Elementary School Principal Monica Goree told the school board that one of the goals is to improve by 8% in each subject area of the Georgia Milestone End-Of-Year Assessments.
