JONESBORO — A Clayton County Corrections officer was arrested and fired for intentionally allowing an assault on an inmate.
According to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest was part of an investigation into employees violating rules and regulations at the Clayton County Jail. Sheriff Levon Allen named the investigation “Think It’s a Game.”
The CCSO said in a Nov. 1 Nixle alert that on Oct. 28, while investigating the assault of an inmate, it was discovered that Correctional Officer Jalen Clausell facilitated an assault on an inmate. The CCSO said Clausell intentionally allowed inmates to have access to the victim with the sole purpose of causing physical bodily injury to the inmate.
Clausell was arrested, fired, and charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and violation of oath by a public officer, the CCSO said.
According to Clayton County court records, Clausell had a first appearance hearing on Oct. 31 and is currently out on bond.
Four current inmates were charged with aggravated assault in connection to the incident — Isaiah Campuzano, Jevontavious Hall, Lamonte Turner, and Keshon White.
