JONESBORO — During a Oct. 10 work session, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners heard a presentation on potentially increasing parks and recreation fees.

— Resident increase of $5 per class.
— Non-resident increase of $25 per class above proposed resident rate.
— Examples of proposed rates include $40 for residents and $65 for non-residents for aquatics, $25 for residents and $50 for non-residents for fitness, $35 for residents and $60 for non-residents for wellness.
— Cost for equipment, photos and trophies have increased.
— Resident increase of $20 per activity.
— Non-resident increase of 50% above proposed resident rate.
— Examples of proposed fees include $175 for residents and $262.50 for non-residents for cheerleading, $140 for residents and $210 for non-residents for U8-U17 soccer, and $100 for residents and $150 for non-residents for track and field U8-U14.
— No proposed change on daily fee rates of $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents.
— New options added for six or 12-month memberships.
— Resident increase of $5 per month on memberships.
— Non-resident increase of 50% above proposed resident rate.
— No proposed increases for residents or non-residents.
— Non-residents will continue to pay $25 above resident rental rate.
Parks and Recreation Director Troy Hodges stressed that the county is also upping its scholarship program for children who can’t afford the program fees.
“We don’t turn anybody away — we’re going to make it work for that child,” Hodges said.
Board members expressed their concerns about the increase in prices with Commissioner Gail Hambrick having concerns about families who have multiple children in programs while Commissioner Alieka Anderson asked about getting input from residents.
