MORROW — The Clayton County Board of Education recently bought Southlake Medical Plaza — a 33,943-square foot property at 6635 Lake Drive, Morrow.
Transwestern Real Estate Services Senior Managing Director Kevin Markwordt and Managing Director John V. Lopez represented the undisclosed seller in the transaction to the School Board for $3.2 million.
“We are thrilled to achieve a win-win for our client and the community within months of taking the property to the market,” said Lopez. “We believe the sale represents the asset’s highest and best use given the major investments Clayton County Board of Education has been making in the immediate area.”
The 3.89-acre property is adjacent to Southlake Mall.
Clayton County Public Schools bought the former Sears department store on the mall property in 2021 — announcing plans to invest $50 million to transform the space into a 7,000-seat arena.
“We would like to express our grateful appreciation to Transwestern and Dudley Thomas Spade for working with the district in completing this property purchase in such a professional manner,” said School Superintendent Anthony W. Smith. “Their cooperation has allowed our construction team to move forward with a renovation project that will enhance the efficiency of the district’s administration.”
