JONESBORO — In its regular meeting Monday, Oct. 2, the Clayton County Board of Education unanimously approved the purchase of land for the new North Clayton High School.
The purchase of more than 71 acres of land on West Fayetteville Road in College Park comes at a price tag of more than $10.5 million.
The purchase also includes a $1 million donation from the current property owners, School Board Chair Jessie Goree said at Monday’s meeting.
The new North Clayton will have a nine-hole golf course and a 200-meter indoor track.
The current North Clayton High is at 1575 Norman Drive, College Park.
The new North Clayton High is part of the $330 million ESPLOST 7 — which also includes the Lovejoy High modernization, STEM elementary centers, the New Fountain Elementary, the New Morrow Elementary, and the New Huie Elementary.
In other action during Monday’s meeting:

Voting for were Christmas, Williams, and Haney while Bowles, Hill, Straker, and Tellis-Cooper voted against. Baker and Goree abstained.
Straker, the School Board vice chair, explained he supported naming the facility after Goree but not now as she is a current School Board member.
