JONESBORO — The City of Jonesboro has announced an extension of the application deadline to Friday, Oct. 20 for the Jonesboro Youth City Government program.
The program will include the selection of a youth mayor and six Youth Council members who will represent the voices of the city’s young population.
“This initiative is an excellent platform for young individuals who are passionate about making positive changes right here in Jonesboro, Georgia,” a press release stated. “By participating in this program, scholars will gain valuable experience and insights into civic leadership, community development, and the democratic process. “
Applicant qualifications include being a resident of the city of Jonesboro or Clayton County; be a rising ninth, 10th, 11th or 12th grader in a public, private charter or home school; and be interested in the betterment of youth in the community.
“I’m ready to give our youth the absolute best opportunity to succeed right here, right now in Jonesboro!“ says Council member Alfred Dixon, who initiated the Youth City Government program.
