DeKalb District Attorney Sherry Boston announced today that she is recusing her office from ruling on the investigation into the officer involved shooting at “copy city,” the site of the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.
Manuel Esteban Perez Teran was shot and killed by a Georgia State Trooper last week after officers say he shot at a state trooper.
Typically, any time an officer discharges their weapon, the incident is investigated by a third party, usually the GBI. Once the investigation is complete, the results of the investigation are sent to the local District Attorney’s office to determine if any charges will be filed against the officer. In this case, the local District Attorney is the DeKalb District Attorney’s office.
Boston has recused the agency from receiving and reviewing the investigation. The investigation results will now be sent to a third party.
