Playing with the dog positively affected both relaxation and concentration based on alpha and beta wave activity. This suggests playing with dogs provides a good balance of relaxation and engagement.
Participants reported significantly lower stress levels during all activities involving interaction with the dog–when compared to when they were resting. The results from the Stress Numeric Rating Scale indicated that engaging with the dog, regardless of the specific activity, led to an immediate reduction in the participants’ perceived stress.
