SOCIAL CIRCLE — Commercial fishermen can take to the water beginning at midnight on Jan. 1 to take advantage of the opening day of shad season, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division. Shad season is scheduled to run through midnight on March 31.
“Similar to the 2022 season, the 2023 shad season fell short of expectations for many fishermen,” Jim Page, WRD senior fisheries biologist, said in a news release. “While 2023 catches were disappointing for many, we are hopeful that the 2024 season will provide a good shad run and abundant catches.”
