Some of the fiber that will be used for cables needed to carry out the federal government’s plan for a nationwide expansion of broadband internet are going to be produced in Gwinnett County.
Sen. Raphael Warnock’s office told the Daily Post that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration picked Norcross-based OFS Fitel to be one of the companies which will produce broadband fibers for the $42.45 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program, also known as the BEAD Program. These companies will produce equipment needed for broadband expansion, including optical fiber, fiber optic cable, key electronics and enclosures.
