The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is partnering with the Writers Guild Foundation to host an event called SCAD TVfest: Screenwriting on April 19.
The event is put on by SCADFILM, which produces events for students and professionals working in film, television, and other entertainment sectors, and will feature workshops and a pop-up library with access to original screenplays from film and television.
The event will take place at SCADshow, the university’s theater complex located in Midtown. The day will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a workshop called “TV Format Fundamentals.” Writers Guild Foundation librarian Lauren O’Connor will offer insight on the history and conventions of television script formatting using examples from the foundation’s library collection.
The Writers Guild Foundation, a nonprofit that aims to preserve the history of screenwriting, is home to roughly 50,000 film and television scripts, and the public will get the chance to view these scripts during the pop-up library event from 2-5 p.m. SCAD students can also visit the library on Thursday, April 18 from 6-8 p.m. Some of the work that will be available to peruse during the pop-up includes pitches from the television shows “Friends” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” episode outlines from shows like “Friday Night Lights” and “Bob’s Burgers,” and writers’ room documents from “The Sopranos” and “The West Wing.”
At 4:30 p.m., Briana Besler – a screenwriter for “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Ginny & Georgia” – will present a workshop called “Business and Marketing for Screenwriting.” Additional sessions are expected to be announced at a later date.
Tickets are free for SCAD students, faculty and staff, $5 for SCAD alumni and $10 for the general public. More information and tickets can be found online.
