Mayor Rusty Paul congratulated each team and player, with the schools getting plaques to commemorate the occasion. The teams included:

- Holy Innocents’ Golden Bears – GHSA Class AAAA State Runner-Up.
- Riverwood Raiders – GHSA 6A Girls 200 Freestyle Relay Team State Title.
- Riverwood Raiders GHSA 6A Boys Basketball State Champs.
- Marist Girls Basketball Team – 6A GHSA State Champs.

Trey Scott, who came to Mount Vernon his sophomore year, agreed with his teammate, saying the program has progressed each year.
“It just feels great to finally make it over that hump and become state champions,” he said.
Scott said the City of Champions event was important for all the teams.
“I grew up in Sandy Springs, and just seeing all the schools and teams from around the area being so successful, it’s definitely something super cool for the school and just the entire city,” Carroll said.
