A contract for almost $12.4 million for the Mount Vernon Highway Multi-Use Path and Intersection project was approved by the Sandy Springs City Council at its Tuesday meeting.
Excellere Construction of Marietta will take approximately two years to complete the project designed to improve vehicular and pedestrian safety from Vernon Trace to the Sandy Springs MARTA Station. A 10 to 12-foot multi-use path will be built on the south shoulder of Mount Vernon Highway. Six-foot wide sidewalks will be built on the north.
Excellere will add new turn lanes at intersections that include Glenridge Drive, Barfield Road, Crestline Parkway, Peachtree Dunwoody Road, and Perimeter Center West. The project also includes traffic signal upgrades.
The transportation sales tax project aligns with the city’s adopted Bike/Pedestrian Plan, Comprehensive Plan, and Last Mile Connectivity initiatives, according to the city’s website. The path will also provide connectivity to the proposed multi-use paths on Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Path 400.
