FOREST PARK — The city of Forest Park unveiled the new Gillem Public Safety Building Friday, May 12.
The $8.3 million, 15,000-square foot building is a mixed-use facility that includes a fire station with three apparatus bays, a police precinct substation, a state-of-the-art conference room for public safety personnel, a high-end kitchen, compartmentalized sleeping quarters, and a full weight and exercise room.
“When it comes to public safety, ensuring that our city employees have the right tools and resources gives us the opportunity to provide the highest level of customer service, especially during an emergency,” said Mayor Angelyne Butler. “By having this new facility, the city of Forest Park will not only be in a better position to respond to incidents near and around the Gillem Logistics Center, but we’ll also be able to help protect our local investments that have generated over a billion dollars for our economy.”
The building is at 2090 Anvil Block Road in the Gillem Logistics Center.
Constructed by Hogan Construction Group LLC, the building replaces the old Fire Station No. 3. The project was funded from a $41 million bond that was secured by the city through the 2015-20 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax or SPLOST.
“These type of capital projects illustrate our commitment to building quality facilities that will help shape the overall development efforts around our city under the One Forest Park initiative,” said City Manager Ricky L. Clark Jr. “I want to commend our city council, incredible staff and community partners for all of their hard work and dedication to making this amazing public safety building a reality.”
The fire station will be staffed by up to eight firefighters, Forest Park Fire Chief Latosha Clemons said.
