ATLANTA — Former Clayton County sheriff Victor Hill has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.
U.S. District Judge Eleanor Ross also sentenced Hill to six years of supervised released as well as 100 hours of community service.
Federal prosecutors had recommended a sentence of 46 months.
Hill was found guilty in October of violating the civil rights of six pre-trial detainees at the jail. Hill had the men strapped into restraint chairs for several hours at a time without cause.
Hill was indicted in April 2021 and suspended by Gov. Brian Kemp in June 2021 after a review panel determined the charges he was facing adversely affected the administration of his duties and the interests of the public.
A special election to will be held on March 21 to select Hill’s replacement.
