JONESBORO — Two former schools in Clayton County are set to be demolished.
The Board of Education approved two bids to raze Riverdale Elementary School and Forest Park Middle School.
Complete Demolition Services was awarded both contracts for a total of $2,099,108.
A new early learning center is planned for the Riverdale location at 6632 Camp St.
A new Forest Park Middle School will be on the site of the former building on Finley Drive. The $65 million project will be paid for using Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax 6.
The early learning center is part of the district’s future plans. The centers are planned throughout Clayton giving the county’s Pre-K learners a guaranteed place to begin their education.
District officials are planning to build six centers using E-SPLOST 7 funds should the measure pass. The question will appear on the March 21 special election ballot. If approved, it will allow the district to collect up to $330 million between 2025-2029. In addition to learning centers, the following capital projects are planned:
♦ New North Clayton High School
♦ Lovejoy High modernization
♦ STEM elementary centers
