Sandy Springs residents who live near the Mt. Vernon Highway Bridge need to plan for a temporary water outage expected to last seven hours on Friday so crews can work on a waterline.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced on Thursday afternoon that the water outage will start at 10 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. on April 12.
The areas affected by the water outage will be: Mt. Vernon Highway at Highland Valley Court to Riverside Drive and Mt. Vernon Highway at Whitner Road around to Idlewood Drive and back to Mt. Vernon Highway.
The temporary disruption will allow crews to work on the 8-inch waterline for the new bridge over I-285.
GDOT and its contractor, Archer Western Construction, are getting close to opening the new bridge to vehicular traffic. The opening is expected in late April, weather permitting.
Even after the opening, motorists should expect temporary closures and flagging operations on I-285 and Mt. Vernon Highway to finish the bridge project.
