The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program named four North Springs High School students as state finalists this year – the first from the school since 2017.
The honorees from North Springs are:
- Evelyn Brown, Communication Arts
- Alexis Davis, Dance
- Niyah Sanchez, Visual Arts
- Aurora Seesink, Social Studies
These four scholars will further their subject matter expertise for four expense-paid weeks at Georgia Southern University this summer alongside fellow finalists from across the state, according to a press release.
Skilled, knowledgeable, and talented high school sophomores and juniors are chosen to attend the residential summer program, according to the release. It offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom. That instruction is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
The program is held in mid-summer as a residential educational experience on a college or university campus. Students attend classes in the mornings and afternoons in specific areas of study. They participate in social and instructional opportunities each evening. The program provides meals and rooms. The only required and expected costs to the students are: travel expenses to and from the semifinalist event and host campus; a few basic supplies for classes and dorm rooms; and spending money as desired during the program.
