JONESBORO — During its regular meeting March 19, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners approved a transfer of $1 million to the Clayton Center Community Service Board to be used the rest of the fiscal year.
The Clayton Center CEO Dr. Lee Adams explained to the board that funding is needed because the department is not a budget item and is on a fee-for-services model.
The Center has to wait on reimbursements from Medicare, Peach State, etc.
Without the $1 million, Adams told commissioners that they would have to lay off employees.
Board of Commissioners Chair Jeff Turner said the original ask was for $1.5 million.
Clayton Center provides such services as heath care, mental health care and substance abuse services.
Per state law, Clayton Center is the safety net health care provider in Clayton County.
The fiscal years ends June 30.
