JONESBORO — Alabama State University representatives recently visited Mt. Zion High School with one local student being presented a full scholarship to the HBCU in Montgomery, Ala.
Aaryss Anderson was awarded a full tuition-paid Presidential Scholarship while several students also received partial Heritage, Dreamer’s and Promise scholarships.
The Feb. 28 event was part of the 2024 Alabama State University Buzz Tour where ASU President Dr. Quinton T. Ross Jr. and other representatives visited the local high school.
As part of the visit, seniors from high schools throughout Clayton County Public Schools were able to participate in a college fair with representatives from various ASU departments to receive information about the numerous degree fields offered at the university as well as to receive scholarship offers.
Students also participated in a formal presentation from Ross encouraging students to consider ASU as the institution to continue their education.
Other speakers included Clayton County Board of Education Chair Jessie Goree, School Board member Dee Haney, Mt. Zion Principal Kimberly Grant, Cross Culture 365 Ministries Pastor Mel Smith, ASU Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs/Enrollment Freddie Williams Jr., ASU District Recruiter, Ambria McDaniel and ASU Miss Junior Ferrin Lewis.
