MORROW — A Georgia State Trooper was killed early morning Tuesday, Feb. 20 while investigating a crash on I-75 North near Mt. Zion Boulevard.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety identified the officer as Trooper 1st Class Chase Redner.
Redner was investigating a vehicle crash where a construction worker was fatally hit at about 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19.
The Department of Public Safety said Redner was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died.
The incident is under investigation, DPS said.
Redner worked for the Georgia Department of Public Safety since September 2017 and was a graduate of the 103rd Trooper School.
“The Department of Public Safety sends its sincerest condolences and prayers to TFC Redner’s family and co-workers,” a statement from the Department of Public Safety read. “Please keep TFC Redner’s family in your prayers as they cope with the loss of their loved one.”
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp also released a statement on Redner’s death.
“As the second state patrolman to die in the line of duty in less than a month, our hearts are broken for his mother and fiancé, for his friends and community, and for the entire Department of Public Safety family,” Kemp’s statement read. “This is an incredibly painful time for their elite ranks, and we ask that all Georgians — and those far beyond our state — pray for Trooper Redner’s family, loved ones and colleagues.”
