JONESBORO — The Clayton County Board of Education recently honored two Elite Scholars Academy students who were chosen for the Disney Dreamers Academy.
Senior Cameryn Polk and freshman Hannah Dennis were honored at the School Board’s Feb. 5 meeting for were selected as official winners of the 2024 Disney Dreamers Academy Essay Contest.
The Disney Dreamers Academy seeks to find students who possess a winning combination of attributes that reflect strong character and an attitude that will take advantage of opportunities to achieve a successful future.
The contest prize package includes an invitation to attend the Disney Dreamers Academy scheduled April 3 to 7 at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla.
The two ESA students were two of eight from Georgia to be chosen.
Other recognitions during the Feb. 5 meeting included:
♦ The Jonesboro High School Majestic Marching Cardinals were honored for being featured in a TV commercial for the Apple Super Bowl Halftime Show for Usher.
The theme of the commercial was to incorporate Atlanta culture to commemorate Usher being selected to perform for the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show.
This marks the first time an Atlanta area high school band has been featured in a Super Bowl commercial.
♦ Mary Barkley, a CCPS Technology staff member, was honored for serving as the Georgia Local Education Agency representative to the National Forum on Education Statistics and Data Conference since 2016.
♦ Brandis Rencher, of the CCPS Human Resources Department, was honored for earning her Society for Human Resource Management certification in December 2023.
♦ Clayton County Library Board of Trustees members were honored for their ongoing support of CCPS.
