ATLANTA — The Clayton County Chamber of Commerce recently honored Clayton County School Superintendent Anthony Smith with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Clayton County Board of Education was also honored with the 2024 Vanguard Award for Innovative Leadership during the Chamber’s 70th Anniversary Gala held at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway Hotel on Jan. 27.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a distinguished Clayton County leader who is recognized for his achievements in advancing quality of life through economic progress and is an outstanding and lifelong supporter of the Clayton County business community.
Smith joins the ranks of other distinguished leaders who have led and served in the Clayton County community for 25 or more years.
The school board appointed Smith as interim superintendent in December 2022 and named him permanent superintendent in June 2023.
Smith has more than 30 years of educational experience and began his career with CCPS in 1995 as a computer technology teacher.
He was a classroom instructor for four years before serving in a variety of leadership positions in the school system.
He is an eight-year Air Force veteran and served three years as a branch president in the financial industry.
The Vanguard Award for Innovative Leadership recognizes an individual or group whose trailblazing efforts are exceptional and cutting-edge in community advancement through economic progress.
