ATLANTA — Clayton County Youth Commissioners earned awards at the 2023 Georgia Assembly Civic Engagement Conference.
The 17 youth commissioners participated in debates, wrote bills for the House and Senate, served on committees, and acted in various appointed positions.
Youth Commissioner Miatta Harris received “Best Orator” and Youth Commissioner Andy Pham was awarded “Associate Justice for the 2024 Youth Assembly Conference” after debating with students from across Georgia.
The Georgia Youth Assembly is a three-day learning opportunity for high school students to learn more about Georgia state government.
The annual conference held at the State Capitol in Atlanta is led by student-elected delegates.
“We are proud of each of our youth commissioners for serving as delegates during the conference and representing Clayton County well,” said Nicole Horne, Office of Youth Services administrator. “This group of students has shown a commitment to self-improvement, education, and their county, so it is noteworthy that they were able to experience such as an extraordinary opportunity.”
