JONESBORO — The Jonesboro City Council recognized outgoing Council member Ed Wise with a proclamation at its Monday, Dec. 11 meeting.
Wise has served on the City Council since April 2015 and decided not to run this fall, citing that he wanted to spend more time with his family.
“Always question your government,” Wise said at the end of the meeting. “We’re just up here to steer the ship. You guys (citizens) are the navigators. You guys direct us on what to do. If we aren’t doing what you want done, stand up and say something. If you still don’t get results, that’s why we have election.”
Wise is originally from Norfolk, Va. and moved to Clayton County in 1985 and has lived in the City of Jonesboro for the past 18 years.
“Wise’s term in office has overseen much growth in the City — including the development of Lee Street Park, the Broad Street project, and the Jonesboro City Center,” a statement in the meeting agenda packet read. “Councilman Wise has also assisted the City with its emergency siren system, through his personal business, Sirens for Cities.”
The City Council also recognized former City Council member Pat Sebo-Hand, who resigned from the Council in January 2023 to run for mayor in the spring special election to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Joy Day.
Sebo-Hand first joined the Council in January of 2013 and has also served as mayor pro tem. She has been active with the City Farmer’s Market as well as food distribution events with the local schools.
